plasma tv means

When the movie Avatar comes out on DVD, will it be possible to watch a 3D version on your home (plasma) tv?
I mean will the 3D technique also work on a tv screen, while watching it with 3D glasses? That would be so awesome!
Well with television you are going to run into a problem. In theaters they use polarized 3d. It uses one light wave for the left eye and a different one for the right eye, then each lens blocks and unblocks the double images of everything. Televisions can’t put out two different light waves, in fact the movie theater has to buy a special projector to do two light waves. That is why some theaters only show these movies in 2d. So for tv they have to resort to anaglyph 3d that uses those red and blue glasses. Each image is red or blue and then the lenses block images using color which will work on your tv.
They are coming out with 3d for home use that looks just like polarized 3d called field sequential, that uses shutter glasses. You have to have a television that can do that format. If you don’t mind avatar in the red and blue then it maybe available, it just depends on what format they decide to release it in. With 3d for home coming out in a year or two it is hard to say what they will do.
