Math homework!?
I’m in stupid math (Math course 3) and I need some help with a few problems.
9.36k – 2.021 = 8.89k Do I subtract the 9.36k from the 8.89k or do I add it and then divide 2.021 by the k answer?
g – 2/3g = -5/6 Combine the like terms to get what? Because it says to subtract the two thirds g from g. It makes no sense!
1/4a -4/9 = 7/9 – 5/6a My calculator won’t do fractions and I know I should subtract the 1/4a from 5/6a to get like, 2/3 or something. and then… can’t figure out what to do from there.
Here’s one I know how to do but can’t because of fraction/calculator problem.
5/8t + 2/15t = 17/20 Multilpy them all by the LCD (60) and still keep the first two t’s and add them. Divide whatever the 17/20 thing by the t number and that’s what t equals.
always put the variables on one side of the equals sign, and the constants on the other. Combine the k’s. Then divide to isolate the variable.
for the first one, to show all the steps….
9.36k-8.89k-2.021 = 8.89k-8.89k (subtract 8.89k from both sides, so the ones on the right cancel out)
9.36k-8.89k-2.021 = 0
now, add 2.021 to both sides.
9.36k-8.89k-2.021+2.021 = 0+2.021
simplifies to
9.36k-8.89k = 2.021
since the k’s are combined on one side, you can subtract them
0.47k = 2.021
divide both sides by 0.47 so the k is by itself
0.47k/0.47 = 2.021/.47
k = 4.3
You can check your answer, by putting 4.3 into the original equation and see if the answer agrees.
